Daemen College

Daemen College offers the only entry-level Masters in Athletic Training program in Western New York.  Prospective students have 2 program options. Students may choose the 5 year BS/MS in Athletic Training program or the Direct Entry MS in Athletic Training.  Daemen College Athletic Training students complete a Gross Anatomy course and complete clinical experiences at numerous sites including College, University, High School, Professional Sports and Physician Offices.

The profession of Athletic Training can be traced to Greek and Roman civilization when “trainers” helped athletes reach top physical performance. Athletic Training, as we know it today, began with the development of interscholastic and intercollegiate sports in the 19th century. The National Athletic Trainers’ Association which establishes standards for Certified Athletic Trainers began in 1950.

SUNY Cortland


Athletic Training [ATR] (Major)

The Kinesiology Department offers the Athletic training undergraduate program leading to a bachelor of science degree. The program is formally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

Students admitted to SUNY Cortland will be advised into coursework appropriate to the degree. However, to remain in the program and qualify for the clinical experience, students must complete an internal application review by the selection committee which takes place during the fall of each semester.

At the completion of the program, students are eligible for the Board of Certification Examination. The program is also recognized by the New York State Education Department for Registration as a license-qualifying program for professional purposes.
