Sudden Cardiac Death in Athletes and AED Preparedness  (8:00am)

At the conclusion of this presentation Attendees will be able to:

  • Analyze the epidemiological data on sudden cardiac arrest in athletes to identify high-risk populations and common underlying conditions that contribute to increased SCA incidence.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of current preparticipation screening practices and emergency action plans (EAPs) in detecting and responding to potential SCA cases in athletic environments.

  • Implement evidence-based strategies for enhancing AED preparedness, including the integration of CPR training and strategic AED placement, to improve survival outcomes in cases of sudden cardiac arrest among athletes.

"How do You Support Student-Athletes in Navigating Mental Health Challenges?"  (8:30am)

At the conclusion of this presentation Attendees will be able to:

  • Identify Key Signs of Mental Distress: Participants will be able to recognize common indicators of mental health challenges in student-athletes, including behavioral, emotional, and physical symptoms, and understand when to take appropriate action or refer for professional help.

  • Utilize the O.A.R.S. Model in Communication: Attendees will learn how to apply the O.A.R.S. (Open-ended questions, Affirmations, Reflective listening, and Summarization) model to foster supportive, client-centered conversations with student-athletes, using motivational interviewing techniques to encourage mental health awareness and resilience.

  • Develop Mental Health Support Strategies: Participants will gain practical knowledge on creating a supportive environment for mental health conversations, establishing referral networks, and integrating mental health resources into their role, ensuring comprehensive care for the emotional and psychological well-being of student-athletes.

Put Your Oxygen Mask On First Psychological Trauma Considerations and Biopsychosocial Self-Care for Athletic Trainers  (9:30am)    

At the conclusion of this presentation Attendees will be able to:

  • Understand basic concepts of psychological trauma and its impact on an individual’s mental and emotional state.

  • Understand how to better identify trauma-related behavior in themselves and others.

  • Understand the biopsychosocial elements of self-care to apply to themselves and others to enhance wellness and effectiveness as an AT professional.

Posterior Ankle Evaluation and Treatment Considerations (11:00am)

At the conclusion of this presentation Attendees will be able to:

  • Evaluate the posterior ankle in order to obtain a more precise differential diagnosis

  • Create a specific plan of care for the affected areas of the posterior ankle

  • Identify patients with posterior ankle pain that may need additional referral

Integrating Cultural Competence and Humility in Athletic Training Education: Data-Driven Insights to Advance Student Learning and Clinical Practice (1:00pm)

At the conclusion of this presentation Attendees will be able to:

  • Analyze and apply the Cultural Competemility Model to enhance educational practices and clinical outcomes in athletic training.

  • Demonstrate the application of the Competemility framework by modeling culturally competent behaviors in athletic training clinical settings.

  • Evaluate students' abilities to demonstrate cultural competence and humility within the athletic training clinical setting.

Industrial Sports Medicine (1:45pm)

At the conclusion of this presentation Attendees will be able to:

  • Understand the role of a certified athletic trainer in the industrial setting

  • Apply the skill set of an athletic to a non-traditional population

  • Understand the value that an athletic trainer brings to this blossoming setting

Athletic Trainers and the US Army's H2F System (2:30pm)

At the conclusion of this presentation Attendees will be able to:

  • Identify why The US Army needed to implement the H2F System.

  • What an Athletic Trainer's job is within the H2F System.

  • How to prepare for and obtain a job within H2F.
